Japan Champs to play GFL Team!!


The Düsseldorf Panther are kicking the 2013 season off at home with a highlight game: the Obic Seagulls, the Japanese champions, are visiting the Panthers on May 18 in the International Challenge Bowl II at the Paul-Janes Stadium in Duesseldorf.Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. “I’m pleased that the International Challenge Bowl will be held for the second consecutive time in Germany,” said AFVD-President Robert Huber. “This is only the second time that two club teams from Europe and Asia are facing off. This is a historic event that also offers special experiences and challenges for everyone involved.”Marcel Friedrich, President oft the Panther agrees and is looking forward to game day. Many volunteers and Panthers staff members are working on the day’s activities. “Düsseldorf has many Japanese residents – the most of any city in Europe,” Friedrich said. “In addition, Düsseldorf is celebrating its 725th anniversary and the Panthers are celebrating their 35th anniversary. We all agree that this year’s Challange Bowl needs to take place here in Düsseldorf.”The Seagulls have won the Japanese Championship for the last three years. The Panthers are welcoming many new players this year and are looking forward to the challenge. In last year’s inaugural International Challenge Bowl, the Seagulls beat the Dresden Monarchs 29-17. In addition, keep in mind that the German national team, which has been the top team in Europe for more than 10 years, has never won against a team from Japan.Irrespected who might win the game the Duesseldorf organisation is pursuing that this will be a memorable day for fans, the Panther Team and last but not least for the Japanese champions, the Obic Seagulls. The organizers hope that a capacity crowd will show.Tickets are going on sale on Saturday, Feb. 16. Cost: 14 Euros (Seated area – 2,288 available) – 18 Euros at the stadium. 8 Euros (Standing room) – 10 Euros at the stadium.
