Vukovi takes Cup over Wild Boars

Belgrade Vukovi upset EFAF Cup finalists the Kragujevac Wild Boars 51-36 to win the overall Serbian Championship with a sold-out crowd looking on.

Led by quarterback Vinnie Miroth’s five touchdown passes, Vukovi came from behind in the second half for the win. Brandon McDowell rushed for a touchdown and scored another on a pass while Bratislav Bosnjak caught three touchdown passes for the victors.

The Wild Boars, without the services of quarterback Stan Bedwell who broke his leg in the EFAF Cup Final, took an early 20-3 lead. Jeremy Payton, replacing Bedwell at quarterback , helped guide the Wild Boars to a 20-19 halftime lead.

The game seesawed back and forth in the third as Vukovi scored to take a 25-20 lead. But Jeremy Payton and the Wild Boars responded with a 77 yard TD pass to Ruzic Nedeljkovic to regain the lead.
Vukovi then scored 20 straight points in the fourth quarter, including a fumble return for a touchdown, to clinch the win.

This was the first time in three years that all the teams in the Serbian American Football League (www.saaf.rs) had a chance to compete for the championship.
